Principal's Message

WMS - Principal's Page

Welcome to Watkins Middle School, Home of the Warriors. I am Ryan Brown, and I have the pleasure and honor of being our district’s middle school principal. I have been the principal at Watkins Middle school since 2012. Before that, I was the assistant principal at the high school for two years, and prior to that I taught math and history at Canal Winchester for 10 years. My wife’s name is Bethany, and we have four wonderful kids.

Our middle school consists of grades 6 through 8 and currently has 970 students walking the halls each day. With the help of our wonderful teachers, we do a fantastic job preparing students for high school and the years beyond. We continue to help your children learn the necessary skills for the 21st century. Some of those skills will come from our 6th grade required course, Digital Engineering, which will teach the Google Apps suite of products that includes documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. We will also be offering elective courses for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders called STEM 6 and Pre-Engineering 1 and 2. These courses will require students to do a variety of activities including research, product design, analyzing data from product testing, and analysis reporting. All of these skills will require students to think critically which is a big focus throughout the middle school. In addition to these courses, we also offer Digital Art to our 7th and 8th graders enabling them to learn how to use Photoshop and other digital media. We have also introduced an Effort and Citizenship Report Card to help our students and their parents know how their child is doing in regards to classroom behavior and lifelong skills such as attendance, timeliness, and leadership. This report card has helped many students reflect on their classroom and school behavior and encouraged them to make better decisions. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you better and encourage you to contact us or schedule an appointment if you have any questions. Thank you for visiting our website and being a part of the Southwest Licking community. Go Warriors!!
