Pataskala Elementary is eager to welcome back students, their families and staff to the 2015-2016 school year. We are very pleased that our school has a well-earned reputation in our community to its commitment of fostering academic excellence while consistently focusing on creating positive social relationships. At Southwest Licking, we are working together in creating a child-centered learning community that involves each and every adult who interacts within a child’s life.
Visiting our school, you will notice many positive changes. In staff news, we would like to welcome some new staff members to the Pataskala Team. Our new staff members include: Hannah Cupples- 2nd Grade, Brittany Rios- 3rd Grade, Natalie Nash- 3rd Grade, Hannah Garringer- Intervention Specialist, Janice Thacker- Intervention Specialist, Sarah Palmer-Intervention Specialist, Lori Shortridge- Intervention Aide and Janet Block-Intervention Aide.
Another project the district took on this summer was improving the transportation challenges of the 2014-2015 school year. Using information from the transportation survey conducted by SWL, our parents/guardians indicated a desire for changes that would:
- Decrease the ride time for students.
- Get the “FAMILY FEEL” back – allow students in grades K-5 to ride the same buses.
- Get the K-5 elementary students home at the same time – this will allow older siblings to watch younger ones.
- Shorten the ride time for as many students and families as possible.
- Reduce the number of buses traveling down the same roads.
- Allow students to ride the same bus in the morning and evening – this will allow students, parents/guardians and drivers to get to know each other.
- Increase the overall efficiency of the transportation department.
Elementary buses will be picking up students in grades K-5 by neighborhoods. The same driver and bus will be used to drop the students off at the end of the day. Buses will be arriving at the hubs by 8:35 a.m. and students who need to transfer to the grade level building will be leaving each hub at 8:40 a.m. on a designated shuttle bus. Parents/guardians utilizing the shuttle service will need to have their student(s) to their local hub before 8:40 a.m. The middle and high bus transportation procedures will remain the same. Bus route information will available on August 13th. Please see the district website for more information. A team of volunteers is needed for the most efficient first days; please contact the office at 927-3861 to offer your help.
Building start and end times are as follows:
• All three elementary buildings will be in session from 9:00 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. (Students may get a breakfast between 8:35 a.m. to 8:55 a.m.)
This is beneficial information for the community at large in order to avoid encountering the congestion on local thoroughfares during these times.
See below for more information about school supply lists, information on Open House and other updates. It is encouraged that all families sign up for each of their children’s school listserv by clicking on the announcements link located on the left hand side of each building’s home page.
In closing, we look forward to meeting our students and their families and working with each to create the best educational experience. We believe that students can reach their potential when parents, teachers, students, administrators and the community work together. The staff of Pataskala Elementary School looks forward to another year of providing an outstanding education to our students. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or positive comments, please contact your child’s teacher or Mr. Wehrman. Working together we can provide the education each child in our district deserves. We thank our learning community for their continued support.
