Scheduling Information for 2016-2017

WMHS Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe, but it is time to begin scheduling for the 2016-2017 school year. Our course description guide is on the website, but we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know about some exciting changes for next year:
- Increased College Credit Plus (CC+) courses- In addition to Comp 1 and 2 taught at WMHS but for credit at Columbus State, we will also offer American Lit 1 and 2, History of Music, and Music Theory through Columbus State. We will continue to offer College Bio through COTC, but next year we will also add Bio 1, an upper level Bio class, also through COTC. Finally, we will offer Anatomy and Physiology through Ohio Dominican University. Credits from all of these courses can transfer to ANY public university in the State of Ohio, and best of all to you, they do not cost you anything.
- We are also "bringing back" our industrial technology program, although it will now resemble what is desired for the 21st century. This partnership with CTEC allows students to stay at WMHS but will eventually allow students to complete a pathway in Engineering. These hands-on, real-world classes are something we have been anxious to bring back after previous budget cuts, and our students will greatly benefit from these opportunities.
-Mentorship is also a new course being taught by our business department. In this day and age, our students need "hands-on" opportunities to experience the "real world". This course allows time in the student day for students to leave school and gain an appreciation for various jobs they might be interested in while working on important skills like interviewing, making a resume, etc.
-Tues. Feb. 9th. 6:00 Auditorium. We have a meeting on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:00 PM in the high school auditorium to go over CC+ opportunities as well as what was formerly called PSEO (students who leave our campus to go to college courses while still enrolled in high school). This meeting is truly vital to make sure you understand what is expected of the class, how it will work, and what the admission process is for each of the courses. Since any student interested in CC+ must notify the building of their intent to take these options must do so by April 1, I highly encourage any individuals to attend the meeting.
It is an exciting time to be a part of WMHS! If you have any questions about this, please make sure to talk to an administrator or a guidance counselor.
Proud to be your Principal,

Ben Richards
Principal, Watkins Memorial High School
