COVID-19 Updates

SWL Registration

Welcome to Southwest Licking Local School District! Our staff is looking forward to learning and growing with your child.  If you are a first time parent in SWL Schools you will soon discover the amazing students, staff and community we have.  Thankfully, we have a streamlined paperless enrollment process for all parents/legal guardians of new K-12 students through our online portal to get you started.

Registration Process

Step One - Online Pre-Registration

You can complete the online K-12 application from any device.  You will be instructed to create a login and password to save your information so you can return at a later date if necessary (for completion, or to reschedule your appointment).  Once you have completed all questions within the online form, a detailed checklist will be provided to save/print so you can be aware of what documentation will be required to enroll your student.  On the final page of the website, you will select an appointment date and time to meet with the Registrar.  If you have any questions, please call 740-927-3941.

Step TwoEnrollment Appointment with the Registrar

Appointments for K-12 registration will be at our District Office, located at 927-A South Street in Pataskala.  Your child is welcome to come, but it is not required; please allow 15-30 minutes of your time once we get started.  Please be sure to have ALL documentation with you as required to complete enrollment or you may be asked to return at a later date to submit the rest of your information.  Students are unable to be assigned to a classroom by the building staff until ALL paperwork has been verified.  At that point in time, we can establish the date your student will have their first day of school at SWL!

Please note: If a delay or closing occurs for SWL Schools due to inclement weather, appointments will be canceled accordingly.  In the case of a delay, all appointments prior to 10am will be canceled.  With a closing, all appointments for the day will be canceled.  In these cases, notification will be sent to the email address provided for the Primary Guardian on how to reschedule.

90 Day Tuition Waiver

If you are building or purchasing an existing home in the SWL district and you will not occupy this new residence prior to the enrollment of your student you may provide proof of your intended residency. When the House Under Construction Letter form and all acceptable documents have been filed you will be permitted a maximum of NINETY (90) days in order to complete construction/closing and occupy your new residence to supply your established proof of residency.

Assignment to School and Boundaries

With the construction of our new buildings, we are not currently balancing class sizes across the district by location.

Resident students in grades K-12 will be registered as follows:

Grades KG, 1 – Kirkersville Elementary

Grades 2-3 – Pataskala Elementary

Grades 4-5 – Etna Elementary

Grades 6-8 – Watkins Middle School

Grades 9-12 – Watkins Memorial High School

Back to School Forms for Returning Students

Beginning every year on August 1, a legal guardian of students returning to SWL and entering grades 1-12, must fill out ALL forms using our online Back To School Portal  This site simplifies the process of filling out forms for your children because much of the information you will be asked to complete will be automatically imported from our systems. Additional information you provide will then update your student’s records electronically with your digital signature.  You will need your student’s ID number as listed in Progressbook to complete this process.  Your student’s ID are always BOTH the username AND password.  You will need to repeat this process for all other students, one child at a time.  Students will be unable to pick up their schedules or receive classroom assignment information until this has been completed.

Change of Address

All requests for changes of address on school records should be submitted to District Office by a legal guardian for processing.  Residential address changes cannot be processed by a child’s school office staff or by Transportation***.  Please request any changes in the actual physical address where parent and the stude reside by completing our  Change of Address formand returning with acceptable proof of the change in residence along with a photo ID.  If you do not have the capability to print the form, please pick up or return the form to District Office Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.

***Bus Transportation after Change of Address

If your student rides the bus to/from school, a legal guardian must submit an updated Transportation Information form before bus routes can be changed.  Any changes in the actual physical address will need to be authorized at District Office first, as described above.  Once completed, or if a student has NOT moved, the legal guardian can  return the form with a photo ID to either the Transportation Office or District Office.  ALL Transportation changes require 2-3 working days to take place.  The start date of your new transportation will be confirmed once all required documents have been verified.  Once configured, someone from the Transportation Office will contact you within 1-2 days all the route details you need for your child.

Duplicate Residency

If you are unable to provide proof of residency in your own name while currently living with family or friends that reside in the SWL District, you must submit a notarized Duplicate Residency formwith ID and 2 proofs of residency in the name of the person with whom you are residing.  If you do not have the capability to print the form, please pick up or return the form to District Office Monday-Friday 8am-4pm.

Kindergarten Registration and Screening

February marks the beginning of enrollment for the upcoming school year!  Each year on February 1, the online registration window opens for students that will be 5 years old on or before August 1 of the current calendar year.  For the 2020-2021 school year the online registration window closes for spring screening on May 1.  Be sure to register now and complete your appointment prior to that date to select your Kindergarten Screening Appointment for May 11, 2020!  Please plan to allow 60-90 minutes for the Screening, as students will work with teachers while parents/guardians have an informational session with School Administrators.  The screening allows the staff to meet your student and get some baseline data on what your child already knows so they can begin planning for your child’s individual needs, come fall!

Preschool Registration

The SWL Early Learning center is a Preschool for Special Education (PSE), which means that we have a student population that consists of students with disabilities and peer models. We aim to individualize programming to each student throughout the year tailored at their own pace, so that their learning experience is focused on their developing needs and skills.  Parents interested in applying for our Early Learning Center Preschool can begin the process by contacting the ELC at 740-927-5437 if your student currently has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan), or completing the Peer Model Application online; once submitted, you will be contacted by the Preschool Registrar (once there is an opening) to schedule a Peer Model Screening.  Please note: children must be 3+ years of age and potty trained.
