Crazy LEGO WarriorBots

Last week, thousands of students from around the world competed at the 2019 FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, World Championship in Detroit, MI. The Crazy LEGO WarriorBots from Watkins Middle School were one of the the three teams representing Ohio. Our season started August 1st, 2018. Each team is challenged to create an innovative solution to a real world problem, unite as a team, as well as imagine, design, and program a LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robot to complete as many challenge missions in the 2.5 minute time limit.

This opportunity was more than competing in a robotics competition for our students. The Crazy LEGO WarriorBots strategized with the team from Scotland during robot rounds, won a lunch meet and great with Don Bossi the president of FIRST, and reached out to another Ohio team to form a face time mentoring program for future Watkins Middle School teams.

At the end of this year the Crazy LEGO WarrriorBot team will change. Four members plan to move up to compete with our high school FIRST Robotics team and return to mentor new middle school teams. While three members will lead a new team starting August 1st, 2019. The team will change, but the life lessons and skills experienced at the FIRST World Championship will last a lifetime.
